The BIG question?

August 28, 2006 at 11:31 am (creative development)

…. is whether other Vega Students will be interested in the idea of Vegasphere? Will they want to chat to other Vega students from around the country? Will Durban based students want to know what the Cape Town crowd is up to?These are just a few of the questions I aim to find out through a very simple questionnaire, that I am in the process of drawing up. I am going to get as many students as humanly possible to fill in the questionnaire- I have Durban covered, but Cape Town and Jose are going to be a bit tricky (But I am formulating a plan of action in my head as I write this). I’m also thinking of holding a focus group type thing to gain some qualitative research, but will probably just chat to a few people at campus. Im hoping the results of the questionnaire will lead to more questions which I can then answer through qualitative research.will post the questionnaire later………………..

Creative Development Brief

August 24, 2006 at 10:00 am (creative development)

So for our final Creative development project we where given a brief in which we have three months to complete. The brief was titled:

SEE A NEED, FILL A GAP.

We were told that we could choose any need in any place/space/area no matter how big or small. One of the needs I have felt this year is to communicate and interact with fellow students from other Vega campuses. To engage in conversations and find out what other Vega students are doing around the country.  This need lead me to the problem that there is no communications platform that allows for interactions with fellow students from other Vega Campuses. Here is my revised version of the brief- I did this in order to make more sence of what needed to be done and where I should be heading. THE ‘REVISED’ BRIEF:

  • Conceptualise appropriate solution for branding, strategic and creative problem
  • Develop and individual perspective and style within a creative application
  • Apply strong critical and analytical skills and abilities in the development and assessment of creative solutions
  • Produce socially responsible work that is appropriately contextualized within contemporary South African context

Choose a territory that is unknown to you- a space that you have not been before or are unfamiliar with.

  • Identify a problem in the community at large
  • Research and analyse the context (idea generation, exploration, interesting things discovered)
  • Look at previous solutions provided
  • Develop new solutions
  • Final outcome ( your reasoning for finding a solution to that specific problem).

The need: To communicate and interact with fellow students from other campuses. To engage in conversations and find out what other Vega students are doing around the country.   The Problem:  A problem is that there is no communications platform that allows for interactions with fellow students from other Vega Campuses. The website is somewhat static, and doesn’t encourage interaction from both students and outsiders.  I need to communicate with other Vega students around the country (South Africa), but there is a lack of communication platforms, so one has to adopt new communication technologies (blog). So my vision and goals for this project is to set up a blog (which I have done on both blogger and wordpress) so that students can interact on a national level. My long term goal would be to have student’s chatting and engaging with other similar educational institutions overseas. I think that would be great for both establishing connections and cross cultural learning outcomes. Heres hoping it takes off………….

Lets talk……. “Wisdom with Magic”!

August 15, 2006 at 10:38 am (aim of blog)

Vega Students Unite (VSU) blog as the name suggests aims to bring together Vega students from the Durbs, Cape Town and Jose campuses.Through the use of this blog students will be able to interact, share and discuss current topics with regards to Branding. As well as being able to share their experiences that they encounter whilst studying at vega: the brand communication school.

This blog is still in its infancy stage and I hope to have it up and running within the next couple of weeks.

Whats in a name?

August 6, 2006 at 10:13 am (creative development)

VEGASPHERE: you may ask where the name came from. Well the name is derived from the word blogosphere, which is the community of blogs that can be found online. The Blogosphere is the collective term encompassing all blogs as a community or social network.

So there u can see the resoning behinf Vegapshere, where it aims to bring together Vega students through a blog.
